Many of these are fragments and some have encoding errors or bad parameters.Sound quality is generally poor. Some episodes are adaptations; others are pastiches. Most of the Green-Boucher episodes are pastiches based on events in the stories of the Holmes canon, decades before Bert Coules used the same technique.

The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Most of these episodes are pastiches, based on minor incidents in the stories in the Sherlock Holmes canon. These are effectively a continuation of the Rathbone-Bruce series, but with a new actor playing Holmes, a new network (ABC) and a new sponsor (Kreml hair products). There are no writing credits.

The rebroadcasts/cassettes frequently have extraneous introductions or closing narratives.

1959-69 Hobbs-Shelley (1952-1957; 1958; 1959-1969)

The Hobbs-Shelley partnership began before the Gielgud-Richardson series with a series of Children’s Hour programmes from 1952 to 1957 (adapted by Felix Felton). Hobbs and Shelley also performed in the January 03, 1953 performance of the Raymond Raike adaptation of the William Gillette Holmes play. In 1958, a six part adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles was written by Felix Felton and performed by Hobbs and Shelley.

The 1959-1969 series featured Hobbs and Shelley with scripts by Michael Hardwick. Many of the supporting actors of the Gielgud-Richardson series also appeared in this Hobbs-Shelley series.

See also the Documentaries and Other Performances Section for The Man Who Was Sherlock Holmes, a 30 minute biographical drama written by Michael and Molly Hardwick, but not featuring Hobbs and Shelley. Michael Hardwick also furnished scripts to South African radio (again without Hobbs and Shelley), four of which episodes are catalogued following this section.

Episodes exist in Home Service (HS, starts with hailing a cab and usually slightly longer) and Transcription Service (TS, starts with violin and ends with piano) versions.
